Let me first share with you the concept of“ Be-Do-Have”.
You need to BE who you are, so you can DO (act) in alignment with who you are and HAVE what you truly desire.
Hence, to be Successful – You Need to BE:
1) CONSISTENT
This I believe is the most important thing you need to be successful in any sphere of your life, be it personal or professional. Consistency is key. Keep at it and you will always and I repeat, always be successful. Very often people are just about to achieve success but they give up at that critical juncture just before reaching it.
2) DETERMINED:
As you grow in your personal or professional life you will face many small successes and failures. When you achieve a small success it’s easy to keep going and be consistent but when the road blocks come, that’s where the real challenge lies and you need to be determined in your desire to succeed to keep going despite the small failures. It’s overcoming these inevitable difficulties and setbacks that you’ll need lots of determination and perseverance for.
3) FOCUSED:
It’s very easy to get distracted and it’s extremely normal as well. However, when that happens, you need to make sure you can come back on track and get focused on your end goal again. For that you need some back–up tools like mindfulness exercises, having reminders of what you want to achieve, how important it is for you to achieve them and what you will feel once you achieve them, etc.
You must learn to prioritise and focus, to decide which actions are most important – and do those first. Set goals for yourself and then review them regularly. Are your actions and short-term goals taking you there? Know what you want, and be willing to reprioritise as many times as it takes to be successful.
4) BE YOU:
As the famous saying goes, “in the world full of fake people, be the original”. This may seem simple but it’s very hard to embrace and follow. Being the true authentic “You” is the key to your success. When you start your journey and you are feeling all excited and raring to go, it’s easy to get swayed by the ways of the world and do anything that helps you succeed. But trust me when I say this, that success will be temporary unless you are being true and authentic and following the right principles and ethics. Bring the real “You” with you always, even if it means showing your vulnerable side and you will always find success. Big Success!
5) COURAGEOUS:
There are countless ways you need to be brave when running your life. You need a lot of courage to let go of things and people that are not serving you on your path to success. It is extremely hard but a key ingredient in attaining it.
How do you handle disturbances and interferences in your life? They can come in the form of tasks or people, do you just go with the flow or take action to gently move past them and continue on your journey of life to achieve the goals you have set for yourself. It takes a lot of courage to move past them or even remove them from your environment. Give yourself a pat on the back when you can because it is not easy to do so.
6) COMFORTABLE WITH SUCCESS:
Yes, you need to get over your money/success issues. It’s very easy to say, I want to be successful. But can you handle the success and all that comes with it?
There is nothing to be embarrassed, guilty or ashamed of if you want to make it big. There is no guilt, no shame or embarrassment! Instead go ahead and ask for whatever it is you need to achieve your goals and don’t be ashamed of it!
7) WILLING TO LEARN:
Be willing to learn new things, especially those that are out of your comfort zone. Those you will realise are the most important. Success comes with challenging yourself. It would be so easy to just do all that you already know but the fun is to learn and do stuff you don’t know, the success feels even more special then.
Half the “battle” of being successful is simply willing to learn everything you need to!
8) GRATEFUL:
It may sound strange to some but you cannot even imagine what having an attitude of gratitude can make to your life. Being grateful for what you already have and even that what you don’t have is extremely important. Be grateful not only for your small successes but also for the failures. They actually are nothing but learning lessons on your path to ultimate success, without which you would not succeed. So be grateful for them.
Winston Churchill said, “Success is not final; failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts”
Being successful is more a frame of mind than the actual result. If you can trust yourself and have faith in your capabilities, you already are a success. The rest is the journey that will be joyous or not depending on how you look at it.
So be happy because life is too short to waste even a single day being anything but!
